The Will of The Coward

Today I was taking a long walk in the mid-day sun, with the temperature at about 88 degrees and the wind blowing mildly in my face. About 15 minutes into my walk the thought came to mind about the cowardly act of many Christians claiming they love people and how they certainly don’t want people to go to hell, yet they refuse to be open about their faith in a way that would make a non-believer want what they have. Please, don’t make the mistake of assuming that I didn’t examine myself as well, so I’m certainly not being too critical, or judgmental. I think sometimes as Christians, we find all types of excuses to not share the Gospel ( the good news about Jesus).

If the News is so good, why not share it? If we really believe that we are saved from Hell and cleansed of our sins through the shedding of His blood on The Cross, why do some of us remain in doubt about who we can reach? Why do we remain as lazy as couch potatoes when it comes to this? I have a few reasons to help us with the answer.

1. Many of us are plain and simply not reading His Word.
2. Some of us are not being trained in effective ways to witness
3. Many of us are still dabbling in too many pleasures of this world.
4. Many of us are not praying or fasting.
5. Some of us are doing our will, and not His.

You see, we pray “The Lord’s Prayer” over and over again yet, ignoring what it says.

“Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven… “

So if His will be done, what is His will?

And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. John 6:40

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:15

I can use many more verses to push my point but, what else do I really need? You see, once we continue to do our will, instead of His will, we are actually acting as proud, self-serving, and self-righteous as the devil himself. The book of Isaiah said this about Satan…

For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Isaiah 14:13-14

Satan wanted to do what he wanted to do and will pay the ultimate price for it. So, do we feel comfortable acting like Satan, or the Pharisees, while we are holding back the good news about the saving power of Jesus Christ? Many people will say “All you have to preach is love, or the love of Jesus alone”, but what good is that, if they don’t have any idea that they are already condemned to hell?

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:18

Why are we so afraid? Are we afraid that the world will look at us as if we are crazy? Are we afraid of the persecution? Oh wait, is it the fear of losing friends and close family members? No? can it be the fear of losing that job that tells us, “Mention Jesus, and you’ll be fired?” We need to put back the backbone into Christianity and pray to God that we will continue to do His will. Whether it’s spreading the Gospel, or living our lives in responsible ways. Laws are being passed in rapid paces to undermine Christian morals and rights. If you don’t speak up about it, the world will continue to crumble. The agenda of sin is being pushed upon us in unprecedented ways, and so continues the persecution. We proclaim, “Oh my, I can’t believe I just saw that on TV or heard that on the radio.” Yet we do nothing to help the other Christians who are trying to preserve our constitutional rights and moral integrity. The freedom that we have to share the Gospel today, is fading away at a rapid rate.

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Matthew 10:28

Some people use the analogy, “If a house was on fire, and people inside were about to burn, would you run in and help them?” Well, the house is on fire, and we are watching people about to get incinerated while we laugh it up with them, or give them a politically correct gospel, that’s sure to leave us cursed because it’s not the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Word of God cuts like a knife and is meant to offend, warn, awaken and save the non-believer.

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Matthew 16:24

People might not want to be told that they have been living in sin their whole life and in turn, will be tossed into hell by a God that they do or do not believe in. God is calling people to Himself and we can give them a chance to accept Him and be in His love, and not His judgment. How are they going to hear if, it isn’t spoken? One thing that makes me hopeful, and less afraid to share the Gospel, is that I continue to realize that there are many people who actually want to hear it than I first thought. The realization that there are so many hungry souls out there, is a lesson I had to learn hard and fast.

“He that winneth souls is wise” Proverbs 11:30

The world is in economical, moral, and spiritual decay. There are many ways for people to go, but we refuse to show them the ONLY way, through Jesus Christ. If we are serious about our walk, let’s take time out to think about what we are doing and remember that someone shared the Good News with us, so in turn, we should not be afraid to seek out opportunities each day to share it with others.
